Questions About Applying to BDEA

How do I know if I am eligible to apply to BDEA?

The eligibility requirements for enrollment at BDEA are: You must between the age of 16 and 22 years old by the time of enrollment, and you must be registered as a student in the Boston Public Schools. For more information on registering at BPS, please visit this BPS Website.

When can I apply to BDEA?

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the school year and summer. Students are enrolled at the beginning of each trimester during the academic year: September, December, and April. Applications submitted between April and August will be considered for September enrollment. Applications submitted between September and March will be considered for enrollment the following trimester.

How do I start the application process?

The admissions process at BDEA begins with completing an application. You can pick one up at the school, apply online, or download an application (Cape Verdean Creole, Haitian Creole, Portuguese, Vietnamese, Chinese, Spanish, or  English) to mail to the school at:

Boston Day and Evening Academy
Attention: Admissions Manager
20 Kearsarge Avenue
Roxbury, MA 02119

The best way to begin the process is to be in touch with BDEA’s admissions manager. That conversation will help us begin to get to know you and will give you the information you need to feel confident moving ahead with your application. You will need to enroll in Boston Public Schools if you are not already a BPS student, and can do so at any of the family resource centers in Roxbury, Dorchester or Hyde Park. You can learn more about the process here.

Do I need to submit anything besides the application form?

Yes, you will need to submit your transcripts, and any applicable educational documents, such as IEPs, from any previous schools that you have attended, as well as immunization records. If you are filling out the online application, you must agree to mail these records before your application is considered complete. If we don’t have all of these forms, your application cannot be considered.

What can I expect after submitting my application?

Applications are received on a rolling basis, year-round. After you submit your application, please allow 2-4 weeks for processing. Our admissions manager will contact you to schedule an interview. The interview process allows us to get to know you better while answering questions you may have about our school.

What is the next step after my interview?

After your first interview, the admissions manager may ask to schedule a second interview with you and your parent or guardian. After the interview process is complete, you will be notified via mail regarding the status of your application. Once you complete the interview, you will be assigned to a mandatory three-day orientation session. If there are no seats available for your chosen start time at the time of acceptance, you can choose to be added to the waitlist for the lottery. Once the orientation is completed, you will then be enrolled as a BDEA student.
